Polonca Lovšin (1970) is an architect and artist based in Ljubljana. In 2015 she completed her PhD in Artistic Research at Bauhaus University, Weimar, Germany (2015). In her work she focuses on self-organised initiatives and alternative ways of living and working related to architecture and urban planning. Over the last few years she has focused on the relationship between the urban and the rural. Her approach is interdisciplinary and combines knowledge from architecture, visual arts, urban planning and social sciences. Together with KUD Obrat she initiated a long-term project, a community garden Beyond a Construction Site in Ljubljana (2010-present).
Among her most important projects are: Movement for Public Speech (2015 – ongoing), Dynamo projects (2009 – 2011), Inventions for an independent living (2002 – ongoing) and a collaborative project Beyond a Construction Site in Ljubljana. She has exhibited on solo shows and numerous group exhibitions in Slovenia and abroad. Lovšin has also received numerous awards, scholarships and residencies, such as four-year production support from the Ministry of Culture of Slovenia (2010-2013), the Zlata Ptica award for visual and media art achievements in Slovenia (2010), an art residency at the Wysing Arts Centre in Cambridge, UK (2009), and an Artslink residency in New York/San Francisco, U.S.A. (2006).
